Beware of Bambi asked:
I’m travelling to London for the first time in September and will be spending about 4 to 5 days there towards the end of the month. What should I do and where should I go?? What is the cheapest and most effective way of travelling around the city? I’m also interested in unique shops and markets, so any information/experiences of these would be appreciated!

Also wondering how safe it is for a teenage girl to travel around the city by herself?

If I was going to London for the first time, I would recommend visiting the following attractions:
- The Tate Modern
- The Tower of London
- Westminster Abbey
- St. Paul’s
- go for a great walk through some of the parks, such as St. James Park
- National Gallery
- Piccadilly Circus
- Trafalgar Square

Sights to see:
Westminster Abbey
Big Ben
London Eye
Hampstead Heath (HUGE park)
St Paul’s Cathedral
Oxford Street
Harrod’s
V&A Museum
Tower of London
National Gallery in Trafalgar Square
catch a show in the West End
walk around Covent Garden
Kew Gardens
Camden market
wander around Highgate or Hampstead Village
As for traveling around the city, I would go to any tube stop and buy an oyster card. You will pay 3GBP for the card (you get that back if you return the card) and then add money on it as needed. My mom comes over a few times a year and she keeps on oyster card and just loads money on when she gets here.
As for staying safe. I would be careful about your purse, I always carry one that goes across me, not just on one shoulder. Be careful about talking on your mobile phone while walking around, thieves are known to steal them off while you are talking. Just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings.
Have a good trip!
